The Cook Islands were named after the explorer James Cook and are a group of 15 islands between the Northern and Southern Groups in the South Pacific Ocean between Fiji and French Polynesia. The Northern Group of Islands are made from low-lying coral atolls which means lots of grass and palm trees grow in the Northern islands. But the Southern Group of island are formed from volcanos, have rich and soft fertile soil and rainforests. The Southern Groups have wet and rainy season from December to March followed by dry season, where tropical storms are often common.

• Many people keep family pets: pigs goats and dogs
• Rarotonga has the most majority of the population of all the 15 islands of over 13,00 people 
• Rugby is the most popular sport followed by cricket and soccer
• At 658m Te manga is the highest mountain in The Cook Islands
